FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Author James Jones Program at O’Fallon Public Library
O’Fallon, Illinois – February 26, 2008 – Mayor Gary L. Graham would like to announce that Ray Elliott will be presenting a program called “James Jones, the Evolution of a Soldier and a Writer” at the O’Fallon Public Library on Monday, March 10, 2008 at 6 p.m. Admission to the program is free.
The presentation focuses on the life and literary works of Illinois author James Jones (1921-1977). The premise is that Jones himself experienced a concept he coined and wrote about in major WWII literature called “the evolution of a soldier.” It is a process by which those in the U.S. Armed Forces are trained to fight the country’s wars and conflicts and how that process affects individuals—especially when they return to civilian life.
The presentation sheds light on Jones’ well-known novels, From Here to Eternity, The Thin Red Line, and Some Came Running, as well as the man himself.
“I encourage O’Fallon citizens to take the time to attend this event and to learn about a great Illinois writer,” said Mayor Graham.
This program is made possible in part by an award from the Illinois Humanities Council, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Illinois General Assembly.
