FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CodeRED Emergency Notification System Updates
O’Fallon, Illinois – July 8, 2010 – The City of O’Fallon Police Department will be utilizing the CodeRED Emergency Notification System on July 16, 2010 to call the entire community.
The calls will be made periodically throughout the day until the entire database has been attempted. This call will give City personnel the chance to operate the system as if there has been a community-wide notification.
The message that is being delivered directs recipients to the City of O’Fallon’s web site to update their contact information, including adding additional contact numbers. It also asks that recipients spread the word by mentioning the system to family, friends and neighbors.
O’Fallon Police Chief John Betten suggests that “all individuals and businesses should take the time to visit our web site and add contact information to include cellular phones and other non-traditional phones as well as e-mail and text addresses. If your contact information is not in the database you will not receive a call when an urgent message is sent.” In particular, businesses should register as well as individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, those who have changed their phone number recently, and those who use a cellular phone exclusively or have VoIP phones (such as Vonage) as their primary numbers.
Chief Betten urges citizens to log onto the City of O’Fallon web site at www.ofallon.org and follow the CodeRED link in the middle of the homepage. Those without Internet access may call 618-624-4545 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Required information includes a street address (physical address, no P.O. boxes) for location purposes and a primary phone number. Additional phone numbers, e-mail and text addresses may also be entered.
More information about the CodeRED system is on the web site. Any questions should be directed to Capt. Jeff Wild or Michele Fulton at 618-624-4545.
