Memorial Pool Preventative Treatment
O’Fallon, Illinois – August 5, 2010 – The Illinois State Health Department, upon recommendation from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), is requiring all public pools in St. Clair County to hyper-chlorinate their pools due to the recent outbreak of the parasite cryptosporidium in Belleville.
O’Fallon’s Memorial Pool staff will perform the treatment in the evening on Thursday, August 5, during which time the pool will be closed. It is anticipated that the pool will reopen to the general public on Saturday, August 7.
According to the CDC, the parasite cryptosporidium is recognized as one of the most common causes of waterborne illnesses in the United States and is found in every part of the world.
“We have not experienced any illness or issues at Memorial Pool, but want to prevent any possible problems,” said Parks and Recreation Director Mary Jeanne Hutchison.
