FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
No Texting/No Phone Warning Zone Signs
O’Fallon, Illinois – December 13, 2011 – Mayor Gary L. Graham is pleased to announce that the O’Fallon Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit has recently purchased four new “No Texting/No Phone Warning Zone” signs that will be placed in various school speed zones and roadway construction zones throughout the City.
“These new signs will help remind O’Fallon residents of the Illinois Traffic Statute that bans the use of cell phones in school and construction areas”, stated Mayor Graham. “Our goal is to keep our children and construction workers safe and to obtain voluntary compliance with the law”.
The State Statute, 625 ILCS 5/12-610.1b, states: It is unlawful for a person, regardless of age, to operate a wireless telephone at any time while operating a motor vehicle on a roadway in an established school speed zone or on a highway in a construction or maintenance zone.
The Traffic Safety Unit will routinely deploy these signs in the various school speed zones and roadway construction zones throughout the City in hopes of promoting awareness and voluntary compliance with the traffic law.
For more information on the sign program, please contact Sgt. James Cavins at 622-1539 or 477-1958.
