Public Safety Employees Receive Awards

NEWS FROM O’FALLON CITY HALL
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Public Safety Employees Receive Awards

O’Fallon, Illinois – December 22, 2009 –  During the Public Safety Department’s Annual Awards Ceremony that was held on December 18, three employees received Employee of the Year Awards.

“I congratulate each of these employees on their achievement and sincerely thank them for their dedication to our community.  Their expertise and professionalism is one of the many reasons that O’Fallon is such a great community in which to live,” said Mayor Gary L. Graham.

Employees of the Year for the Department of Public Safety included Police Officer Timothy Hamann, who received the Officer of the Year Award, Carol Hamann who received the Civilian Employee of the Year Award, and Kim Lamprecht who received the EMS Employee of the Year Award.

Timothy Hamann received the Police Officer of the Year Award for demonstrating a strong commitment to the community and the organization.  Officer Hamann is a great reflection of the O’Fallon Police Department’s Mission Statement and always conducts himself in a professional manner.  Over the past year, he had 700 proactive contacts with the public, which include safety restraint enforcement, speed enforcement, DUI violations, suspended/revoked drivers, fugitive apprehensions and drug arrests.  “Officer Hamann is a good role model and his strong work ethic, values, and judgment are characteristics all officers should strive to attain,” said Chief John Betten.

Kim Lamprecht received the EMS Employee of the Year Award for her professionalism when dealing with the public as well as performing remarkable care for her patients.  In addition to her paramedic duties, she played a lead part in displaying the importance of continuing education in the emergency medical services by organizing a 12 lead seminar featuring Bob Page, a nationally recognized presenter on the subject of 12 lead interpretation.  Not only was the event a huge success with more than 160 paramedics and nurses attending, it also made it abundantly clear that O’Fallon EMS continues to be a key player in the region.  “Kim is very passionate with her career and feels strongly on the importance of education and continues to be a role model for future paramedics as well as her co-workers,” said Chief Betten.

Carol Hamann received the Civilian Employee of the Year Award for her consistent loyalty and dedication in her work and the extra activities for which she has dedicated herself.  Beyond her normal duties, Carol was instrumental in the implementation of a new bar coding system, which increased the efficiency of the evidence processing duties.  The new system has reduced the audit procedure from a two month task using two peoople, to a two week task that can be accomplished by a single person, saving a vast amount of time and money.  In addition to her proven work ethic, Carol has consistently participated in the Shop with a Cop program, and has, using her own time and money, baked over 50 cakes and pies for employee birthdays.  This was not done due to a request or order, but because she wants everyone to feel a little more special at least once a year, thinking of department employees as family.  “Carol’s ability to reach beyond her normal work structure to introduce new, more efficient technology, and increase the moral of over 50 officers and civilian employees is what sets her apart,” said Chief Betten.

“We are proud of the effort that the Department of Public Safety personnel put forth every day.  They are valuable members of the community both on and off duty and this is exemplified by many of the deeds that we recognized this year,” said Chief John Betten.
