Virginia and Henderson Herod Donate Tree from Which Benches Were Made
O’Fallon, Illinois – January 25, 2010 - Mayor Gary L. Graham is pleased to announce that Virginia and Henderson Herod donated a large Loblolly Pine Tree last summer from which four large benches were made. One bench has been placed at City Hall, one at the Library, and two at Rock Springs Nature Center.

The benches were made from a Loblolly Pine Tree that was planted by the Herod’s when they built their home on Lakeshore Drive approximately 40 years ago. Unfortunately, the tree needed to be removed when the Wesley Drive culvert replacement project took place last summer. A firm located in New Baden designed and constructed the benches. Plaques will be attached to each bench to commemorate the type of tree the bench was made from and to acknowledge the Herod’s for their generosity.
“I sincerely thank Mr. & Mrs. Herod for their understanding during the Wesley Culvert Replacement Project and for their gift to the City”, said Mayor Graham. “They have shared something that was very important to them with not only today’s residents, but also with future generations.”
