Winners of the City of O’Fallon
International Building Safety Week Art Contest
O’Fallon, Illinois – May 6, 2008 – Mayor Gary L. Graham is pleased to announce that six O’Fallon elementary grade school students will receive savings bonds and were recognized at the May 5 City Council Meeting for submitting the winning entries in the 6th Annual International Building Safety Week Art Contest that was sponsored by the City of O’Fallon through its Planning and Zoning Department.

Third, fourth and fifth graders at O’Fallon schools were invited to submit artwork depicting one of the following building safety themes: Electrical Safety, Smoke /Carbon Monoxide Detectors Save Lives, Safe Exits Make for Safe Houses, Furnace Room Storage Safety Prevents Fires, or Barriers/Fences Around Swimming Pools Save Lives. Forty nine entries were submitted and six winners were chosen based upon the artists’ portrayal of their chosen theme.
First place winners receiving a $75 savings bond were Third Grader Riley Mason from Moye Elementary, Fourth Grader Mary Jines from St. Clare Catholic School and Fifth Grader Kirsten Costello from Central Elementary. Second place winners receiving a $50 savings bond were Third Grader Alyssa Loyd from Moye Elementary, Fourth Grader Julie Warchol from St. Clare Catholic School and Fifth Grader Kenny Peters from Central Elementary.
“We are delighted we received so many great entries in the art contest and that O’Fallon children are so interested in and knowledgeable about building safety. Through the education of our youth, O’Fallon will remain a safe community in which to reside”, stated Mayor Graham.
