Why doesn’t my street get plowed when it snows?
The City’s snow plow crews work on a priority basis. The first priority is for emergency vehicle access routes and those which promote smooth traffic flow in high volume areas. So, first are arterial streets and their intersections, followed by collector streets and their intersections, and then residential streets concentrating on known trouble spots. With those cleared, residential streets are done as manpower and equipment are available. However, not all streets are plowed or treated for ice if the snow event is small.
A copy of our current snow policy can be accessed here.
With 120 miles of streets to maintain, unfortunately, we miss a few during large snow events. Please report this to Public Works Operations at 624-4500, Ext. 5. After normal business hours (7 am to 3:30 pm, weekdays), please contact Police Dispatch at 618-624-4500, Ext. 8.
Who else plows snow from the streets in the City?
Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), St Clair County Department of Roads and Bridges, O’Fallon Township Road District and Caseyville Township Road District all provide services on various streets and roads within O’Fallon and the areas adjacent to the City.
