Street System

The City of O’Fallon has approximately 115 miles of streets and alleys designated as Arterial Streets, Collector Streets and Local Streets.

Approximately 45 miles of city streets are oil and chip surface, 45 miles are asphalt surface and 25 miles are concrete.

Arterial Streets are the major roads primarily used for through traffic and generally account for the highest levels of traffic.  They include the following:
FAI-64 – under the jurisdiction of the Federal Highway Administration and the Illinois Department of Transportation IDOT).
Highway 50 – under the jurisdiction of IDOT except the portion from Hartman Lane to Old Collinsville Road which is under O’Fallon jurisdiction.
Lincoln Avenue and O’Fallon-Troy Road – under the jurisdiction of St. Clair County Department of Roads and Bridges except the portion from Highway 50 to Robert Drive, which is under O’Fallon jurisdiction.
Greenmount Road - under the jurisdiction of St. Clair County Department of Roads and Bridges.
Scott-Troy Road - under the jurisdiction of St. Clair County Department of Roads and Bridges.
Thouvenot Lane/Drake Road - under the jurisdiction of St. Clair County Department of Roads and Bridges.
Old Collinsville Road – under the jurisdiction of O’Fallon from the CSX Railroad south to Highway 50, under Caseyville Township Road District north of the CSX tracks, and under St. Clair County Department of Roads and Bridges south of Highway 50.

Residential Collector Streets are the second most heavily traveled roadways and are used to move traffic from the Local Streets to the Arterial Streets.

Local Streets are the most lightly traveled roadways and generally provide access for local neighborhoods and light business areas.

In the past five years, the City has invested more than $10 million to improve the collector roadway system O’Fallon using local funds, Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds and state and federal grants.

Over $15 million in roadway improvements are planned for the next 10 years to the arterial and collector roadways in O’Fallon using local, road district, county, state and federal funds.
Reconstruct Old Collinsville Road from Highway 50 to Frontage Road/Salem Place.
Reconstruct Simmons Road from Kyle Road to Milburn School Road/Fairwood Hills Drive.
Resurface Highway 50 from Old Collinsville Road to Hartman Lane.
Reconstruct Obernuefemann Road from State Street to Ogle Lake Road.
General Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) upgrades to existing asphalt roads in O’Fallon.
