City of O'Fallon, IL - Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) funds

The Roundabout planned for State and Oberneufemann intersection will be partially funded through a federal grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The City of O’Fallon will receive $329,000 towards this improvement. The roundabout will be based on IDOT’s analysis that shows substantially reduced traffic congestion at this intersection and therefore, reduced automobile emissions. Because of the reduced emissions, the project received the grant funds through the state and federal Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) program. The competition for CMAQ funds is enormous; only six projects in St. Clair County were funded during this grant cycle.
