1. Always call the Public Works Department at 618-624-4500 ext. 5, during regular business hours Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 5 pm. If the back-up occurs after hours or on a holiday call the Police Department non-emergency phone number 618-624-4545, prior to calling a plumber when you experience a sanitary sewer back-up. The Sewer Department will be dispatched to check the main sanitary sewer line.
2. Sewer Department crew will determine if the problem is a City responsibility or that of the homeowner. If the blockage is located in the main sewer line, Public Works will remedy the problem as quickly as possible.
3. If the blockage occurs in the sewer lateral, you will be need to call a plumber to remove the blockage.
