1. Members of the O’Fallon Department of Public Safety receive random updates in the area of geriatric training throughout the year. O’Fallon Police Officer John Dilday, who has a wide range of advanced training in this area, is the City’s senior service officer. The Department has sent Officer Dilday to a 40 hour training seminar, covering this topic, teaching him special skills for identifying elder abuse and how to report it. The extreme length that the Department goes to in order to better
deal with the City’s growing population of elders is unprecedented, thus making the City a model for all surrounding communities.
2. Under the leadership of O’Fallon Police Officer John Stover, the City provides its elder’s with the added comfort imparted by a Neighborhood Watch program.
3. An energy assistance program called LIHEAP is available throughout the County based upon financial need. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps pay the winter heating bills or summer cooling bills of low-income and elderly people. 4. Members of the Department of Public Safety have expressed their interest in developing a list of citizens that could be contacted in case of emergencies or for random check-ups. The list would be voluntary, thus not violating HIPPA or any other privacy issue. The contact list could be implemented by using the same technology as the Reverse 911.
