APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM January 20, 2006—No quorum present.
Susan Wann requested that the following statement be added to the January 20, 2006 minutes regarding Item 1: “It should be noted that no “hard numbers” are produced or are required to be produced to justify the majority of the other expenditures made with the tourism money”.
Item 1. SAFB Guide: The Base Guide is mailed to all newly assigned incoming active duty personnel, civilian employees and their families before their arrival at Scott AFB. The guides are also distributed to all commands, offices and government quarters on base as well as to distinguished visitors and personnel on temporary duty and civilian contractors authorized on the base. A quarter page vertical, pre-paid ad will cost $2,090, equating to a 5% discount off the original cost. This price is $118.75 more than last year. The cost of this ad is covered in the current budget and committee members present gave their approval to run the ad.
Item 2. PlaceNameplacePrairie PlaceTypeState Games: Maureen Moore from Prairie State Games attended the meeting requesting an $8,500 contribution to the event to be held in June 2006. Previous years contributions were $7,000 in 2002, $8,000 in 2003, $8,000 in 2004, $0 in 2005 (games held in northern IL). The events to be held in O’Fallon in 2006 include basketball, baseball, baton twirling, karate, judo, gymnastics, and bowling. While the committee members present agreed that the Prairie State Games bring people to our community, this was event was not budgeted and the budget for 2006 does not allow for any extra expenditures. Dean Rich felt that he could come up with $2,500 from other funds and the committee members present agreed to support
the event at that level.
Item 3. Hotel/Motel Tax: Finance Director Dean Rich presented hotel/motel tax increase information to committee members present. The tax will increase by 2% (from 3% to 5%). O’Fallon hotels will remain competitive in the local market as most hotels in the area are already taxing at 5% or higher. After much discussion, it was decided to exempt SAFB contract worker stays from the 2% increase.
NEXT MEETING: To be determined
