David Hursey has been an O’Fallon resident since 1984. He returned ''home'' by moving to O’Fallon from Texas, after spending 10 years with the Southern Pacific Railroad. David started with Southern Pacific (now part of the Union Pacific Railroad) in St. Louis, Missouri. and was promoted, first, to Los Angeles, California and then to Waco, Texas.
When David decided to open his own transportation company, he searched the Metro East area, and chose to buy a new home in O'Fallon because of the friendliness of the people that he met, the proximity of I-64 and the outstanding schools, teachers and administrators.
He is married to the former Susan Honea of Memphis, Tennessee and they are the proud parents of four outstanding children: Martha [Patrick] Stoffel (25), Matthew (22), Andrew (17) and Christopher (16).
David received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern Illinois University in 1972.
He was originally appointed as the City Treasurer in 1991 and served well into 1993. He did not run for election in 1993 because his family was very young and he did not want to miss out on the one chance to see his children grow up, while experiencing the gift and opportunity of interacting with one another.
It was at this same time that he also founded Big Dog Enterprises, Inc., a transportation, distribution, and logistics company. He was the C.E.O. and President of Big Dog for over 10 years, which has now evolved and expanded into The Hursey Group LLC, of which he is the C.E.O. Employing over 25 people in O'Fallon, The Hursey Group is a management and private equity group that manages an association of service companies with a specific focus in logistics, distribution, warehousing, transportation, technology, communications, and real estate.
David is a member and past board member of the First United Methodist Church in O’Fallon, a member of East Lodge 504 AF&AM in Fairview Heights, and a member of AINAD Shrine Temple AAONMS in East St. Louis. In his spare time he enjoys reading, music, automobiles, sports, and his many friends.
