Remodeling / Home Improvements - When do I need a building permit?
There are a variety of home improvements that will require a building permit. Some improvements which generally require a building permit before construction commences are:
- basement finish
- room addition
- remodeling project
- deck construction
- shed installation
- pool installation
- solar installation (when structural changes are proposed)
If you are conducting only electrical or plumbing work, an individual permit for that work may be required. Solar installation without structural changes requires an electrical permit.
