Scott / MidAmerica Leadership Council

The Scott/MidAmerica Leadership Council (SMALC) recently donated Thanksgiving boxes to 50 families in the O’Fallon/Scott Air Force Base area. The boxes contained all the essentials for a wonderful Thanksgiving meal and were delivered to families on Saturday, November 18th. The O’Fallon Come Share Program organized the effort and numerous volunteers from throughout the community helped to assemble and deliver the boxes.

Executive Board Members of SMALC assisted with the assembly of the boxes. Pictured left to right: Mayor Jim Vernier, Shiloh; Woody Gray, Member-At-Large; Mayor Scott Abner, Lebanon; Mayor Gary Graham, O’Fallon; and Mayor Jerry Daugherty, Mascoutah.

Vision
The Scott/MidAmerica Leadership Council is the voice of the communities surrounding Scott Air Force Base and MidAmerica Airport that advocates responsible economic development while preserving and protecting our interests and the quality of life of those who live, work and play in our communities.  The council operates under a spirit of cooperation and is committed to responsible growth and operations of both the air force base mission and airport operations, and development surrounding Scott/MidAmerica Airport.

Mission
The Scott/MidAmerica Leadership Council's (SMLAC) mission is to foster a regional economic development partnership between Scott Air Force Base, MidAmerica St. Louis Airport and the Southwestern Illinois Region by forging public/private relationships that will ensure the future of Scott Air Force Base.

Collectively, we are a regional voice at the county, state, and federal level of government and are committed to responsible economic development in our region, including the protection of Scott Air Force base from encroachment and the fostering of Foreign Trade Zone at MidAmerica St. Louis Airport.

In addition to regional economic development issues, we are also working to enhance the quality of life for members of our armed forces who are stationed at Scott Air Force Base, and are coordinating regional disaster plans with the Base.

Quarterly Economic Forums
SMALC will hold quarterly economic forums that will provide an opportunity for members to network with Scott Air Force Base leaders and county, state, and local officials and to discuss issues pertaining to regional economic development.  Two forums will be held at Scott Air Force base, with dates to be determined.  In addition to the forums, an annual membership event will also be held.
