O’Fallon Police Department 4th Annual Citizen Police Academy Graduates 24

NEWS FROM O’FALLON CITY HALL FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

O’Fallon, Illinois –  Mayor Gary L. Graham and the O’Fallon Police Department are pleased to announce that on October 27, 2015, 24 participants graduated from the 4th Annual Citizen Police Academy.

“The Academy provides a great opportunity for our citizens to learn more about law enforcement and our Police Department,” said Mayor Graham.  “I congratulate everyone that participated in the academy and applaud their dedication to improving the partnerships between O’Fallon’s residents and the O’Fallon Public Safety Department.”

The Academy is designed to give participants a realistic view of the O’Fallon Public Safety Department by providing instruction and education on different aspects of law enforcement and public safety. Citizens were trained by O’Fallon Police Officers, Paramedics, Telecommunicators, and Firemen.

Participants were introduced to the structure of the Public Safety Department as well as basic information that all police officers must know to perform their jobs.  Topics included telecommunications, investigations, traffic stops, DUIs, gun range training, response to resistance, firearm training simulation, crime scenes, AED/CPR certification, fire safety, neighborhood watch, and patrol operations, which included a ride-along with a patrol officer.

Academy classes were held September 8, 2015 through October 27, 2015 at the O’Fallon Public Safety Community room (285 N. Seven Hills Road).

The Citizen Police Academy is held in September each year. Those who are interested in next year’s academy or have questions regarding the academy are encouraged to contact Captain Mark Berry at 618.624.9512 or [email protected].
