United Way Toilet Tissue Drive Oct. 16-23

NEWS FROM O’FALLON CITY HALL FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

O’Fallon, Illinois – Mayor Gary L. Graham is pleased to announce that the City of O’Fallon, in partnership with the United Way, will be holding a toilet tissue drive, October 16-23, 2015, to benefit local community nonprofits. Clean, unused toilet tissue can be dropped off between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. at O’Fallon City Hall (255 S. Lincoln Ave.) and the O’Fallon Public Safety Facility (285 N. Seven Hills Rd.).

“I encourage everyone to bring your donated unused toilet tissue to City Hall or the Public Safety Facility,” said Mayor Graham. “We have been challenged by our neighboring communities to see who can collect the most toilet tissue and I have great confidence that O’Fallon will step up to the Challenge!”

Nonprofits spend thousands of dollars each year on toilet tissue costs. That’s money that could be spend on other needs. The goal is to collect 5,000 rolls of toilet tissue for community nonprofits and those in need. The drive is set up as a challenge between the City of O’Fallon, Fairview Heights, and the Village of Swansea to see which community can donate the most toilet tissue.

In addition to the toilet tissue drive, this year the City of O’Fallon held its annual United Way Campaign September 8–25, 2015 and raised nearly $17,000. This is the 13th year the City has conducted an active United Way Campaign and the focus this year was one of education about what United Way is and how donations to the organization are used. The United Way of Greater St. Louis is a local, non-profit organization that serves nine Illinois counties, six Missouri counties and the city of St. Louis.

O’Fallon residents benefit from the many services that local United Way funded agencies provide. For example, the Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois, the Violence Prevention Center of Southwestern Illinois, the Illinois Center for Autism, the Salvation Army, and the YMCA of Southwest Illinois all receive funding from the United Way. Without this important funding, many of these agencies would not be able to provide the number of programs nor the level of service that is currently provided.

Thanks to great employee and elected official participation, the 2015 United Way campaign was a smashing success. Campaign coordinators Pam Funk and April Mitchell want to sincerely thank O’Fallon employees and elected officials who responded so generously with donations.
