Zoning Hearing Officer - What does this person do?

The Zoning Hearing Officer (ZHO) decides issues such as area-bulk variances or sign variances. In addition, the ZHO is responsible for interpreting any provision or term of the Zoning Ordinance and making any determination of the exact location of any district boundary if there is uncertainty.  The City Council has a 21 day period to review the ZHO's decision and may either reaffirm the ZHO's decision, modify their decision, or overturn it.  Meetings are held on the second (2nd) and fourth (4th) Tuesdays of the month at 5:00 p.m. at City Hall if a petition has been received for review.

You may access the Boards & Committes page for the Zoning Hearing Officer here.  You may contact the Community Development Department, Planning & Zoning Division at (618)624-4500 x 4 to inquire about a certain petition going before the ZHO or to obtain more information regarding applications for the ZHO.
