Sanitary Sewer Regulations

Sanitary Sewer Regulations - Rules for installation of Sanitary Sewer Lines.

  1. 100% of the sewer mains within the development shall be lamped, air-tested and deflection-tested by the Developer. All manholes shall be vacuum tested by the Developer. All manholes and sewer mains not passing these tests shall be repaired and retested until satisfactory test results are obtained.
  2. Purchase the sewer tap from the Public Works Department.
  3. All sewer taps must be installed on a maximum of a 45º slope from the mainline.
  4. All laterals are required to have a minimum 3 foot fall from the lowest drain in the house to the mainline.
  5. All fittings for sewer main and sewer lateral taps must be at least SDR 35 PVC. No Fernco fittings will be allowed.
  6. After the rough framing inspection has been completed run the sewer lateral leaving the ditch and tap area open for inspection, but capped to prevent infiltration of rain water into our sanitary sewer lines.
  7. Call 624-4500, Extension 3 to notify Public Works’ Sewer Division that the address is ready to be inspected.
  8. Sewer Inspections will be inspected during regular business hours. No inspections will be made on weekends.
  9. If you are a contractor that is working in the O’Fallon Sewer District you will need proof of payment for the tap at the time of inspection.
  10. The entire sewer lateral from the home to the sewer main shall remain uncovered and visible for inspection by the City personnel. A copy of the receipt for the sewer tap must be on site for review prior to inspection of the sewer lateral.

Please advise all members of your staff, all contractors, and all homebuilders constructing homes within your development that these policies are effective for all City of O’Fallon sewer installations.

Our crews will not go back to check correction to a tap that has been failed unless it is called back in by the contractor. If the lateral and tap is still not correctly installed after the 2nd notification for inspection by the contractor, there will be a $25.00 fee assessed to cover the time the sewer crew has spent checking on the property.

This procedure is enacted to benefit the contractor as well as the City in ensuring that most of the heavy equipment and building materials will be off the front of the property before the sewer lateral is connected; thus the risk of infiltration into the sanitary sewer is greatly decreased. If these procedures are followed correctly, sewer inspections can be made in a timely matter. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in this matter.
