Walter L. Denton, City Administrator Bio

Walter Denton received his Bachelor’s of Arts in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin and his Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Kansas. Mr. Denton became City Administrator in November 2002. His responsibilities include the coordination of the day to day activities for all departments and operations of the City government. Working with the Mayor and City Council, Mr. Denton helps to translate the policy goals and directions into actions and services which are carried out by the employees of the City. His position is not an elected position, but is appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council.

Prior to his appointment in O’Fallon, Mr. Denton was the Assistant City Manager in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, for seven years. He also has held management positions with the City of Wichita, Kansas, and the City of Liberty, Missouri.

Mr. Denton is a member of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), an organization dedicated to professional, ethical, non-political local government administration. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, where he teaches a graduate class on public administration.
