Sheds and Other Accessory Structures - When do I need a permit to install one?

When planning to put up a shed on your residential lot, placement on your lot and securing or anchoring your shed to the ground are items of consideration.  This information sheet about sheds and other accessory structures (that are not attached to the home) will provide you with answers to common planning questions.

If the shed will be 101-199 square feet, a Zoning Permit is required.  If the shed will be 200 square feet or larger, then a Building Permit and Zoning Permit are required.  This same application is used for all sheds over 101 sq. ft.

Please note that a fence over 6 ft in height is considered an accessory structure. A building permit is required and the fence must meet the accessory structure setback guidelines.
