Illinois American Switching Water Disinfectant on September 15, 2022

NEWS FROM O'FALLON CITY HALL FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On September 15, 2022, Illinois American Water Company will be switching back to their normal disinfectant, which is chlorine and ammonia combined.  This is especially important information for renal care patients.  Chlorine is commonly used in public water systems as a disinfectant and is monitored closely by our water quality professionals.

The City of O’Fallon buys treated water wholesale from the private company, Illinois American Water, and then pumps it to all water customers. Therefore, Illinois American Water will be treating the water prior to its delivery to the City of O’Fallon’s pumping station.
