NEWS FROM O’FALLON CITY HALL FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

O’Fallon, Illinois - April 3, 2018 At the April 2, 2018 City Council Meeting, Mayor Herb Roach and the City Council issued a Proclamation declaring April 17, 2018 as William Holden Day in O’Fallon. The Proclamation was in honor of the famous actor’s 100th birthday.

“Actor William Holden was born in O’Fallon, Illinois on April 17, 1918 as William Franklin Beedle Jr.,” said Mayor Herb Roach. “Mr. Holden could be the most famous person to come from O’Fallon, and he received the Oscar for Best Actor in 1954 for his work in Stalag 17!”

William Holden acted in such films as Wings Up, Sunset Boulevard, Born Yesterday, Stalag 17, Love is a Many Splendored Thing, The Bridge on the River Kwai, the Wild Bunch, and many more.

During his career, Mr. Holden worked with many other famous actors including Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart, Broderick Crawford, Judy Holliday, Deborah Kerr, Sophia Loren, Faye Dunaway, Paul Newman and Steve McQueen.
