City of O’Fallon Partners with Nextdoor, the Private Social Network for Neighborhoods

NEWS FROM O’FALLON CITY HALL FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

O’Fallon, Illinois – Mayor Gary L. Graham is pleased to announce that the City of O’Fallon and the O’Fallon Police Department will be partnering with Nextdoor (www.nextdoor.com), the private social network for neighborhoods, to improve citywide and neighbor-to-neighbor communications.

“We are excited to partner with Nextdoor to provide residents with more avenues to easily and effectively connect with City Departments, and each other, about the things that matter most to their communities,” said Mayor Graham. “There are already over 20 O’Fallon neighborhoods that have started using Nextdoor.”

This integration with Nextdoor will enable the City of O’Fallon and the O’Fallon Police Department to use Nextdoor to build stronger, safer communities with the help of residents. The O’Fallon Police Department and Nextdoor neighborhoods will be able to work together to increase safety and strengthen virtual neighborhood watch efforts.

In addition to the O’Fallon Police Department, the other City Departments using Nextdoor will be:

  • O’Fallon Parks & Recreation
  • O’Fallon Community Development
  • O’Fallon Public Works
  • O’Fallon Fire Department
  • O’Fallon Public Library

With Nextdoor, O’Fallon residents can join private neighborhood websites to share information, including neighborhood public safety issues, community events and activities, local services, and even lost pets. The City and Police Department will be able to post information, such as important news, services, programs, public events, and emergency notifications to Nextdoor websites within the city and service areas.

Nextdoor is free for residents and the City. Each O’Fallon neighborhood has its own private Nextdoor neighborhood website, accessible only to residents who verify that they live in the neighborhood. Neighborhoods establish and self-manage their own Nextdoor websites and the City and Police Department will not be able to access residents’ websites, contact information, or content. Information shared on Nextdoor is password protected and cannot be accessed by search engines.

“We have always invested in innovative ways to increase safety for our residents,” said O’Fallon Public Safety Director, Chief Eric Van Hook. “With Nextdoor, we can help empower neighbors to keep their communities safe and connected and give them the ability to collaborate on virtual neighborhood watch efforts.”

Those interested in joining their neighborhood’s Nextdoor website can visit www.nextdoor.com and enter their address. If residents have questions about their Nextdoor website, please visit www.help.nextdoor.com.
