NEWS FROM O’FALLON CITY HALL FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

O’Fallon, Illinois On Friday, June 9, 2017, Illinois Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti and members of the Illinois Military Base Support and Economic Development Committee (IMBSEDC) held their quarterly meeting at O’Fallon City Hall. At the meeting, Mayor Herb Roach, O’Fallon-Shiloh Chamber of Commerce President Paul Evans, and O’Fallon District 90 Superintendent Carrie Hruby addressed the committee regarding O’Fallon’s relationship to the military.

“It was an honor to address the committee and Illinois Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti on the relationship between Scott Air Force Base, the City of O’Fallon, and O’Fallon’s school districts,” said Mayor Herb Roach.

Founded by the State of Illinois in 2005 as part of the State’s response to the BRAC process, IMBSEDC coordinates the State’s activities on and to act as a communication center for issues relating to current and former military bases in the State of Illinois.

The military and defense industry directly and indirectly contributes nearly 150,000 jobs and $12.3 billion in economic activity across Illinois, as of 2013. It represents nearly 2 percent of the state’s gross domestic product.

The economic impact is the greatest in the area surrounding Illinois’ three active military base installations.

  • Scott Air Force Base
  • Rock Island Arsenal
  • Naval Station Great Lakes

These three military bases accounted for almost 85,000 jobs and $9.1 billion in economic activity in Illinois as of 2013.

The Lt. Governor serves as chairman of the IMBSEDC and is an advocate for the state’s military bases and their surrounding communities. Other members include representatives of State offices and agencies, Illinois National Guard officials and public members.
