Memorial Day Ceremonies on May 27, 2019

NEWS FROM O’FALLON CITY HALL FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

O’Fallon, Illinois Mayor Herb Roach and the O’Fallon City Council encourage residents of O’Fallon to participate in the Memorial Day Programs that will be held on Monday, May 27, 2019.

“Please join me and hundreds of O’Fallon residents at these ceremonies and help us honor our veterans and the brave individuals that gave their lives for this country,” said Mayor Roach.

The first program will be held at 9 a.m. at the City of O’Fallon Cemetery, located on North Oak Street. VFW Post 805 is organizing and sponsoring the program that includes a flag presentation, a speech by Retired Colonel Larry Strube and Mayor Roach, the OTHS band, and a three-volley rifle salute.

The second program will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the City of O’Fallon Veterans Monument, 737 East Wesley Drive. The guest speaker for the event will be Major General Samuel Mahaney, Chief of Staff, AMC. There will be participation from the OTHS AFJ ROTC, VFW Post 805, First Baptist Church Adult Choir, and Miss O’Fallon Adriana Scagliarini, among many others. The names of 24 newly inscribed veterans will be introduced during the ceremony.

In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the First Baptist Church of O’Fallon, 1111 East Highway 50.

Veterans are encouraged to wear their medals and decorations to the events. Residents who plan to attend the programs are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and water bottles.

Attendees should give themselves extra time to arrive, as there will be some traffic redirection during the event. Handicapped parking will be available near the monument.  

In addition to the morning ceremonies, the Sergeant Charles A. Fricke gravesite memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at the Mount Carmel Cemetery. For further information, please contact VFW Post 805 at 618.624.2561.
