National Day of Prayer – May 5, 2016

NEWS FROM O’FALLON CITY HALL FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

O’Fallon, Illinois – Mayor Gary L. Graham and the City Council have issued a Proclamation declaring May 5, 2016 as National Day of Prayer in O’Fallon. A prayer gathering for the National Day of Prayer will be held at O’Fallon City Hall, 255 S. Lincoln Ave. on Thursday, May 5th at 12 p.m.

“I urge all citizens to observe the day by joining members of all faiths to seek divine guidance for ourselves, our leaders, and our City,” said Mayor Graham.

The National Day of Prayer is a longtime tradition first ordained by the Continental Congress in 1775.

The National Day of Prayer became official in 1952 by a joint Resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Since 1988, when the law was amended by President Ronald Regan, the National Day of Prayer observance is held annually on the first Thursday in May.

The theme for 2016’s National Day of Prayer is “Wake Up America.”
