Update on Accident Involving Police Department Vehicle
O’Fallon, Illinois – On Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 8:38 p.m., a vehicle driven by 56 year old Michael Wilkes (of St. Louis, Missouri), traveling westbound on E. Hwy 50, collided with an O’Fallon Community Service Officer’s vehicle. The Community Service Officer's vehicle was parked in the roadway blocking westbound traffic on E. Hwy 50 with emergency lights activated.
The Community Service Officer was assisting with traffic control related to the earlier fatal crash involving a school bus and two pedestrians.
The crash was investigated by the Illinois State Police. Wilkes was arrested for driving under the influence and resisting arrest by the O'Fallon Police Department. Wilkes was later released on bond.
No one was injured in the incident.
