Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day on March 29, 2016

NEWS FROM O’FALLON CITY HALL FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

O’Fallon, Illinois – Mayor Gary L. Graham has issued a Proclamation declaring March 29, 2016 as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day in O’Fallon. The Proclamation is to further extend gratitude and appreciation to all veterans of the Vietnam War and their families.

“This commemoration includes the nine million Americans, approximately seven million living today, who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during this period,” said Mayor Graham. “The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration gives us the opportunity for all Americans to recognize, honor and thank our Vietnam Veterans and their families for their service and sacrifices during the Vietnam War.”

Most states celebrate Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day on March 29 or March 30 of each year, the date of the final withdrawal of U.S. troops from Vietnam. The date commemorates the sacrifices of Vietnam veterans and is part of a national effort to recognize the men and women who were denied a proper welcome upon returning home more than 40 years ago.
