Armed Robbery Suspect Officially Charged; One Suspect Still at Large

NEWS FROM O’FALLON CITY HALL FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

O’Fallon, Illinois – The O’Fallon Police Department is pleased to announce that the St. Clair County States Attorney has officially charged Trent L. Yates for the armed robbery which occurred at the Dollars 4 Gold store located at 1935 West Highway 50. Two suspects have been identified. One was immediately taken into custody. The second suspect remains at large.

The at large suspect was previously described as a black male, wearing a short sleeve red t-shirt, blue jeans, grey hoodie, greyish black mask covering the bottom half of his face, dark colored nylon head rag and armed with a dark colored semi-automatic handgun.  He is known to be 5’ 11” and 150 lbs.

The O’Fallon Police Department is seeking the community’s assistance with investigating this crime.  If anyone was in the area at the time and believes they might have information, please call the O’Fallon Police Department at 618-624-4545.

As a reminder, the second suspect remains at large and should be considered ARMED and DANGEROUS.  Anyone seeing the suspect should not take any action but call 9-1-1 immediately.

On Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at approximately 1:26 p.m., the O’Fallon Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call of an armed robbery at the Dollars 4 Gold store located at 1935 West Highway 50, O’Fallon, Illinois.

The three victims stated that when the two suspects entered the store, they immediately jumped the counter, pointed guns at them and demanded cash and valuables.  A witness in the parking lot observed the incident unfold and instantly called 9-1-1.

As the suspects fled, the witness followed them on foot northbound across Highway 50.  An O’Fallon Police Officer was in the area and immediately engaged the suspects in a foot pursuit into the Homestead and Brookside neighborhood.  One suspect attempted to enter a dark colored 4-door Pontiac Grand Am or Bonneville but the Officer was able to subdue and take him into custody.

One of the victims was checked by O’Fallon EMS, but refused medical treatment.  No civilians or officers were injured during this incident.
