Wine, Witches, and a Walk Event Proclamation

NEWS FROM O’FALLON CITY HALL FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

O’Fallon, Illinois - Mayor Gary L. Graham and the City Council have issued a Proclamation declaring October 22, 2016 as Wine, Witches, and a Walk Day in O’Fallon. The Proclamation further raises awareness for the Wine, Witches, and a Walk event on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Rock Springs Park, 1428 E. 3rd Street, O’Fallon, Illinois.

“I urge all residents, schools, businesses and civic leaders to take time to educate ourselves about the risks of cancer and recognize the efforts of local health care professionals dedicated to prevention, early detection, and effective treatment,” said Mayor Graham. “I also encourage everyone to attend the walk on October 22nd, and support the fight against this terrible disease.”

Registration for the walk will open at 9 a.m. and the walk will kick off at 10 a.m. There will be face painting, pumpkin decorating, and a Halloween costume contest for kids.

A free breakfast for breast cancer survivors will be provided beginning at 8 a.m. on October 22nd. All area breast cancer survivors and a caregiver are welcome to attend the free breakfast.

By signing up, fundraising, and participating in the noncompetitive walk you will help be there for everyone touched by cancer. You will help those who are currently dealing with a cancer diagnosis, those who may face a diagnosis in the future, and those who may avoid a diagnosis altogether thanks to education and prevention.

In addition to the walk, a wine event will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016 at “The Blade” building (1405 North Green Mount Road, O’Fallon, IL) from 7 – 10 p.m. Complimentary wine and heavy d’oeuvres from 1818 Chophouse will be served. Tickets are available at $75 per person. Please RSVP, as there are a limited number of tickets available, by calling the American Cancer Society at 618.288.2320 Ext. 3.

Funds raised through these events will enable the American Cancer Society to save lives from cancer by funding groundbreaking research; provide free, comprehensive information and support to those touched by cancer; and helping people reduce their cancer risk or find it early, when its most treatable.

The chance of developing invasive breast cancer at some time in a woman’s life is about one in eight. Over 240,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed and over 40,000 individuals will pass away from the disease in 2016.
