2018/01/09 - Mayor's Column: Upcoming Events

“An Open Door to O’Fallon”
A Weekly Note from O’Fallon Mayor Herb Roach

As most of you already know, I believe that we are able to accomplish much more by being open and accessible, working together, and always willing to listen to viewpoints different than our own.  I would like to remind everyone of two upcoming events that tie into this approach.

On Monday, January 15th, we will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. In years past, the City has partnered with a number of local churches and organizations, including the local NAACP Chapter, to host a celebration breakfast in honor of Dr. King. This year, unfortunately, the event has been cancelled due to construction at the host site.

But, we should not forget the work of Dr. King and his belief that a person’s worth should not be measured by the color of their skin, culture, or class, but rather by their commitment to creating a better life for all and dedication to servicing others.

I encourage everyone to help promote Dr. King’s legacy by searching for opportunities to help others in the community. Remember, no good deed or kind gesture is too large, or too small.

Then, on Wednesday, January 17th at 6:30 p.m., I will be hosting my third city-wide Town Hall Meeting at City Hall.

We will cover a number of topics, including:

  • Recent actions taken by the City Council
  • Upcoming City Council agenda items
  • The City Council’s top five priorities for the future
  • A lesson about water boil orders
  • Simple precautions that can prevent a call to 911, by Fire Chief Brent Saunders
  • Updates on construction and development

Last but not least, we will open the floor to all of you to ask questions, provide comments and suggestions, and weigh in on your City.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open!
