2018/12/03 - Mayor's Column: Much to share this week!

“An Open Door to O’Fallon”
A Weekly Note from Mayor Herb Roach

Lots to share this week! Police accreditation, O’Fallon Station open, Tinsel Around Town coming up, and a thank you to all of those who made this year’s Holiday Parade such a smashing success.

First, I would like to share a big congrats to the O’Fallon Police Department on achieving Accreditation status through the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP). The O’Fallon Police Accreditation process began in February 2018 and was an ongoing process whereby 67 standards and policies of the O’Fallon Police Department were evaluated against established criterion by an independent and authoritative body of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police.

The O’Fallon Police Department will be one of only three Illinois law enforcement agencies south of Champaign with this accreditation status.

Next, O’Fallon Station is now open in downtown O’Fallon! O’Fallon Station will host various small-scale events throughout the year which will draw people to downtown O’Fallon. One featured event will be a farmer’s market. The market will begin the second Saturday in May and run through the third Saturday in October. Market Hours will be 7:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. There are a couple other events also planned, and these can be found at www.theofallonstation.com. Besides for a select few dates, O’Fallon Station will be available for rent.

Downtown O’Fallon will also play host to Tinsel Around Town on Saturday, December 8th at 12 – 4 p.m. Shop local and enjoy all that Downtown O’Fallon has to offer during Tinsel Around Town. Come shop and support local businesses and restaurants while being serenaded by the OTHS Madrigal Choir who roam First Street performing holiday classics from 12 – 4 p.m. The OTHS Jazz Band will perform on First Street, outside the Chamber Depot, from 12 – 1 p.m. Many businesses will be offering in-store specials as well as complimentary treats.

Last but not least, I want to personally thank all of those who helped make this year’s Holiday Parade wildly successful! Event Coordinator Beth Ortega and her “band of merry elves” really outdid themselves this year. It was such a wonderful way to ring in the holiday season and I believe that all of those in attendance would agree. I am already looking forward to next year’s parade!

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open!
