2019/08/19 - Mayor's Column: City Fest 2019 Was Great!

“An Open Door to O’Fallon”
A Weekly Note from O’Fallon Mayor Herb Roach

What an incredible weekend in O’Fallon! The weather was beautiful. The community was celebrating. And the City Fest event went on without a hitch. Safe to say, O’Fallon City Fest 2019 was a smashing success!

I was proud to see so many attend the festival on Friday and Saturday. And, during the parade on Saturday, there were residents four to five-people deep waving, catching candy, and enjoying themselves!

One new thing that we started this year at City Fest was a “quiet hour”. During that hour on Saturday (1-2 p.m.) all the rides and entertainment were open. However, sound was lowered and mostly eliminated as much as possible in order to provide a low sensory atmosphere for anyone that may be impacted by loud noises.

We received a very nice compliment from an O’Fallon family who appreciated the low sensory entertainment on Saturday. They stated that many times getting through the day can be a challenge. But, on Saturday they were able to enjoy watching their child play and do things other kids get to do and enjoy being part of the community. Very heartwarming!

I truly enjoyed my weekend at City Fest and I hope that you did also. The group of volunteers that put on the event are already meeting to talk about next year’s City Fest.

A very special thank you goes out to the individuals who stepped up and took lead of the planning: Bob Kueker, Megan Breeding, Joni Bugger Fultz, Marcie Bugger Lapolice, Roger Van Etten, Sonny Sterthman, Jon Greenstreet, Todd Fleming, Alderman Kevin Hagarty, Alderman Dan Witt, and Alderman Ross Rosenburg.  There are many others that have also generously donated their time towards City Fest.

It is special to see an idea come to life. Thank you to all our volunteers who will be helping work City Fest. Lastly, I want to thank our sponsors, without your generosity, none of this would have been possible.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open!
