2019/12/16 - Mayor's Column: Happy Holidays!

“An Open Door to O’Fallon”
A Weekly Note from Mayor Herb Roach

The holiday season has always been a time of year that I really enjoy, and this year will be no different. Over the next few weeks, I will be able to get together several times with my family. The group keeps growing, as this year it includes my wife and me, and our three children, nine grandchildren and our two great granddaughters. It is a special time when we are all able to get together.

I hope that each of you will have the opportunity to be with, or at the very least, share a call with your family and friends over the holiday season.

In addition to celebrating with your family, it is also a good time to celebrate and give thanks for everything we are fortunate to have. For me, this is also a time to say THANK YOU to so many organizations, churches, businesses, and individuals that do so much in our community.

We recently held a holiday get-together and recognition ceremony for City of O’Fallon Staff. Our city staff works hard all year, so it is nice to be able to recognize them. At the event, we gave awards to four city employees that truly went “above and beyond” in 2019. The four employees were:

  • Sarah Burton, Horticulturist & Vine Street Market Coordinator; Parks & Recreation Department
  • Detective Nicholas Schmidt, Detective; Police Department
  • Kacie White, Utility Billing Clerk; Utility Billing Department
  • Jennifer Valentine, Administrative Assistant; Fire Department

Thank you to these employees and all the City of O’Fallon’s employees for their work throughout the year!

We should all take a moment to say thank you to those that spend the holidays away from their families which allows us to spend time with ours. This includes our military that are on duty throughout the world, people working in essential facilities, like hospitals, and our first responders.

In the City of O’Fallon, men and women of our Police, EMS, Fire and Public Works Departments are all standing by, ready to help if needed. Please keep these individuals in mind as you sit down for dinner or relaxing at home over the holidays.

From my family to yours, we hope that you all have a very safe and happy holiday!

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open!
