2020/02/03 - Mayor's Column: O'Fallon Mentioned in Governor's State of the State Address

“An Open Door to O’Fallon”
A Weekly Note from Mayor Herb Roach

Last week, O’Fallon was mentioned in the State of the State Address by Governor Pritzker. He stated that “237 Illinois businesses from all over the state made Inc. Magazine’s List of Fastest Growing Businesses in the Nation, including companies in Columbia and Rock Island, St. Charles and O’Fallon, Taylorville, and Chicago.” Two O’Fallon-based companies are listed on Inc.’s list: Rankings.io (#1,366) and Gateway Multifamily (#1,517).

It is a tremendous honor for the City of O’Fallon (and O’Fallon businesses) to be brought into the annual State of the State address by the Governor. O’Fallon is not only regarded as one of the best communities for families and businesses in the Metro-East, but also the State.

At the most recent City Council Meeting, the City Council voted on annexing land to begin the development of the MidAmerica Commerce Center. The City of O'Fallon and Tristar Properties have been working to develop the MidAmerica Commerce Center over the past year, including annexations, sanitary sewer project, incentives through the Enterprise Zone and zoning.  Tristar recently has closed on 20 acres along Shiloh Valley Township Line Road to begin the development.

I’m sure that you have heard me talk about this development before, but please forgive me for being excited. Development of the MidAmerica Commerce Center has the potential to be a long-term job and value generator for the entire area. It also has the opportunity to create new property tax revenue for the area’s taxing bodies. This means that it could help relieve the burden of property taxes on O’Fallon’s homeowners!

There are a lot of positives happening in O’Fallon and I’m looking forward to keeping everyone up to date on them this year!

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open!
