2020/04/20 - Mayor's Column: Thank You O'Fallon

“An Open Door to O’Fallon”
A Weekly Note from Mayor Herb Roach

Success does not come easy, and it does not happen overnight. It takes a lot of things to make a community the premier city in Southwestern Illinois and a place where people want to raise their families or locate their businesses. It takes a lot of hard work by everyone involved and community pride. Even though during this spring we are going through a very different experience than in the past, there are many things that are going on within O’Fallon that are going to keep us firmly positioned at #1.

The following is a list of some of the things that you should be aware of that the city will be doing and what you can do (especially when many of us are spending more time at home).

  • Did you know that during the last two years the City of O’Fallon issued over 480 new building permits? This was the first time that this has occurred in consecutive years in over 10 years.
  • We continue to work on several new business projects as people continue to want to come to O’Fallon.
  • We will continue to work on improvements to our City Infrastructure based on the studies that we have done on which Sewer Lines, Water Lines or Streets need repair. Here is a list of some of that work:
    • drainage improvements on Holliday Dr., Misty Valley and Milburn Estates.
    • Sewer Programs in Southview, Robert Drive and others.
    • Water Main Improvements in Southview.
  • Street resurfacing on all or part of the following roadways:
    • Cambridge Blvd., Steven Dee, Derrick, Jenna Lee, Natasha Cir., Karl Lawn, Oak Ridge, Royal Oak, Oak Hollow, Country Oaks, Oak Creek, Oak, Kensington, Lakepointe Center, Lakepoint Estates, Deer Creek, Red Fox Trail, Amber leaf, Blackberry, Plum Tree, Booster, Meadow Brook, Powell, Ellen, Mylawn, Meddows, Black Hills, Dartmouth, Desoto, Princeton, Matthew, Kim, Rebecca, Susan, Southview, Westfield.
  • There are also items that our homeowners and businesses can do such as keeping grass, bushes and trees trimmed, keeping property cleared of trash or derelict equipment and cars.
  • If you have a neighbor that needs a helping hand, your assistance is greatly appreciated.
  • If there are problems that need to be reported you can go through the City’s on line citizen inquiry system, O’Fallon On Demand at www.ofallon.org/ofallon-on-demand.

I also want to again compliment all of our citizens that have stepped up in this trying time to help their neighbors and just reaching out to help a neighbor, friend, first responder, health care worker and/or local business. I personally know a few individuals that performed the incredibly generous action of donating their entire stimulus checks to the O’Fallon Food Pantry or other need organizations. It is this type of action that helps make O’Fallon the City the great community that it is.  And I cannot say THANK YOU enough.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open (virtually, at least)!
