2020/08/03 - Mayor's Column: Construction Update

“An Open Door to O’Fallon”
A Weekly Note from Mayor Herb Roach

Every year, we plan and implement significant construction projects to improve and maintain our infrastructure. Even with COVID-19, this year is/was no different.

During any construction project, we ask that everyone please be patient and cautious. We apologize for any inconveniences, but the safety of both the general public and workers is our main concern.

Here is an update of the projects that are either currently underway or recently completed:

Street Resurfacing - The 2020 City Street Resurfacing project will begin on Tuesday, August 4th.  The contractor will be in the areas below and will be milling the existing asphalt streets and placing new surface asphalt.  Access to and from properties will be maintained, but delays are likely to be encountered while the asphalt placement occurs.  This is a tentative schedule and is subject to change due to weather, equipment, and material delays.

  • Deer Creek Subdivision – Milling Tuesday August 7th, Paving Wednesday August 10th
  • Brookside Subdivision, Karl and Lawn – Milling Wednesday August 10th, paving August 11th and 12th
  • Meadowbrook Subdivision – Milling Thursday August 11th, paving August 13th and 14th
  • Country Oaks – Milling Friday August 12th, paving August 17th and 18th
  • Southview Subdivision – Later in August or September

Robert Drive Sanitary Sewer Extension - The O’Fallon Public Works Department began the Robert Drive Sanitary Sewer Extension project on Monday, July 20, 2020. The proposed project will extend the existing sanitary sewer infrastructure to the east along Robert Drive to serve the homes on the north side of the road. This work will be completed by Korte & Luitjohan Contractors with an expected completion date of August 28, 2020, weather permitting.

Concrete Program – A contractor began the concrete replacement work in the Country Oaks subdivision on Thursday, July 16th. The contractor is repairing sections of damaged curb. In some areas, access to driveways may be limited while the curbing is given enough time to cure. This work is being done in advance of an asphalt overlay later this summer. Concrete work in this area is anticipated to take 2-3 weeks, weather permitting.  Major concrete work will be performed in the Meadowbrook and Brookside Subdivision areas, and the Southview and Country Oaks Subdivision areas.

Seven Hill Road – The project to restore the road condition of Seven Hills Road is complete. Christ Brothers was the contractor on the project and the work was done quickly. The road looks like it is brand new, but please continue to watch your speed!

Throughout the year, the City of O’Fallon performs numerous projects that go largely undetected. Mostly, this is because they do not require any road closures.

Thanks for reading. Next week, I plan to go into detail on what projects we have planned for next year.

We will also talk about the mentioned projects, and upcoming projects at the City’s next Town Hall Meeting on August 19th, starting at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. We ask that you sign up to attend the meeting in-person. The sign-up sheet is available at City Hall. The Town Hall will also be posted on Zoom.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open (virtually, at least)!
