2020/10/26 - Mayor's Column: Please Vote!

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

In just a few days we will have the opportunity to elect a President to lead our country for the next four years, a U.S. Senator, a U.S. Congressman, and many other local positions.  In addition, you will have an opportunity to voice your preference on whether Illinois should change the State tax structure and the ability to adjust the tax structure in the future.

Many of you may have already cast your ballot by mail or taken advantage of the early voting at the O’Fallon Township Building or at the St. Clair County Court House. But if you have not, please remember to get out and VOTE on November 3rd so that you can voice your opinion on who should serve and if tax laws should be changed.

Please take the time to research the candidates that are running and the other issues on the ballot.  We are very fortunate citizens to have the ability to make decisions on how we will be governed. Many other people around the world only wish that they had the opportunity that we all too often take for granted.

Just a few days after the election, we will honor our Veterans on Veterans Day. Every time you vote, it is important to remember the men and women of our armed forces who have fought so that we can enjoy our freedom to vote. It is through their honor and sacrifice that we, as citizens of this great country, have a voice in who is elected and how our government is run.

There are several voting places around town. If you are not sure of where you should vote, please check your voter’s registration card, or contact the St. Clair County Court House to find out where your polling place is located. Voting Hours are from 6 AM to 7 PM on November 3rd.

Due to COVID-19, this year’s election will be unlike any other in recent memory. When you go to vote, please remember to practice social distancing and adhere to state guidelines on face coverings. The last thing anyone wants is for people to get sick for fulfilling their civil responsibility in voting.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open (virtually, at least)!
