2021/03/01 - Mayor's Column: Looking Forward to the Next Fiscal Year

“An Open Door to O’Fallon”
A Weekly Note from Mayor Herb Roach

The City is preparing the budget for its next fiscal year, FY21-22. Our fiscal year runs May 1, 2021 through April 30, 2022. There are many meaningful things to look forward to in the coming fiscal year.

Each year brings on different challenges that cities need to look at and plan for.  Many of these are not normal day-to-day activities or even activities that occur yearly. Here is a list of some of those that O’Fallon is planning on for this coming fiscal year:

  • The preparation of a new balanced fiscal budget.
  • The finalization and presentation of our Strategic Plan 2040.
  • Adapting the changes required under the new police reform legislation.
  • Getting the new census results and determining the impact it will have.
  • The realignment of county board seats that represent O’Fallon and the surrounding areas.
  • The development of new boundaries for our seven city wards that will reflect the growth and change of the population of the city.
  • The announcements that relate to our new industrial area off I-64 and Rieder Road.
  • The continued mitigation of the COVID virus and the return of more gatherings and city-wide activities.
  • The continuation of improving our infrastructure and internal systems to better serve our citizens and businesses.
  • New developments at our Sports Park and other parks.
  • The new developments at our sewer plant, which will allow for more growth and will lower future operation costs.
  • A thorough review of the various forms of income to the city and impacts by legislation and/or economic changes and or future development plans.

These are in addition to the normal operations of your City. Most of these are items that will require months of work and planning depending upon the magnitude of each.  We will make sure that you are kept informed so that you can give us appropriate feedback as they move forward.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open!
