2021/04/26 - Mayor's Column: Thank You to Our City Council

“An Open Door to O’Fallon”
A Weekly Note from Mayor Herb Roach

With the elections behind us, we now look forward to the changes that will take place. The good thing is that the three newly elected candidates are all coming on board with positive attitudes. They all share the vision and hope that O’Fallon continues to grow and develop in a smart manor and to be a safe place to raise a family and develop a business.

It is also nice that we have many of our elected officials returning for another term. In fact, over 80% of your elected leadership team at the City stays in place. This helps with the continuity of our City’s plans.  It also has a significant impact on new businesses when they look at a community and political stability.

Unfortunately, we will be saying goodbye to three good people who served on the Council:

Mr. Ray Holden from Ward 6.  Ray has served on the Council since his election in May of 2013. He has served as the Chairman of the Parks & Environment Committee and the Community Development Committee in his tenure.

Mr. Matt Gilreath from Ward 3.  Matt has served on the Council since June of 2016.

Mr. Mark Morton from Ward 4.  Mark has served on the Council since his election in May of 2017.  He also served as Chairman of our Finance and Administration Committee.

We are fortunate to have three good individuals who are ready to step in on May 3rd and bring their knowledge and experiences to our City Council:

Mr. Ray Carney in Ward 3.

Mrs.  Stephanie Smallheer in Ward 4.

Mr. Jim Campbell in Ward 6.

We are so fortunate to have good people that are willing to take the time to run for an office and take time away from their families to serve our community. I know of several communities and other public bodies who are unable to say this.  Their role is not easy because many decisions will not please everyone.  Their role is to study each item carefully and to make the best decision for the overall City of O’Fallon.

I want to wish our past members the very best in their future and say THANK YOU to our new Council Members.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open!
