2021/06/07 - Mayor's Column: Summer is Starting

“An Open Door to O’Fallon”
A Weekly Note from Mayor Herb Roach

As we start the summer of 2021, it is nice to see so many things starting to return to a much more normal. I would like to use this week to cover some things that will be happening that everyone should be aware of.

With more than 67% of Illinois adults having received at least one vaccine dose and nearly 51% fully vaccinated, we are starting to see the positivity rate on testing drop below 2% in Illinois.  With these positives developing, I am hearing that by the end of this week the Governor will probably lift most of the current restrictions on our Businesses and on large gatherings.

Even though some measures and recommendations will probably remain in place, for the most part we will be returning to normal.

Part of that normal summer in O’Fallon is children riding bikes and playing outside. I would like to ask you to slow it down a little and be very alert to children playing in the area.  Far too often we read about a child darting across the street chasing a ball and being struck by a car.  We do not want to hear about that happening here in O’Fallon. So please watch your speed, come to full stops, and be observant.

At the top of this article, I said that due to the high level of vaccinations things have improved.  To help things to continue in the positive direction and to help protect our citizens, we have made arrangements with the Illinois Department of Public Health to have a Vaccination Clinic right here in O’Fallon at the O’Fallon Station on June 16th and July 7th .  The Clinic will be open from 2-6 PM.  The vaccine being used will be the Pfizer-Biotech brand.

This is just another way that the City is trying to help protect you and others you are in contact with.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open!
