2021/09/07 - Mayor's Column: O'Fallon Keeps Moving Forward

“An Open Door to O’Fallon”
A Weekly Note from Mayor Herb Roach

We were very proud to see the 2020 Census numbers show that O’Fallon had the largest growth in all of Southern Illinois during the last 10 years.

But our Community Development Department is not resting on its past accomplishments.  It continues to be aggressive in looking at and working with developers on new areas of growth for O’Fallon.  This is despite the impact from COVID.

Through the first seven months of 2021, we are having many discussions with developers and seeing growth happen in both the residential and commercial areas of development.

Here is a few statistics for you to be aware of:

  • New construction value is up 23% over the first seven months of 2020.
  • New residential home construction is up 10% over 2020.
  • Number of overall permits for construction is up 25% over 2020.

It is important for you to know that these numbers are not only ahead of 2020 but they are ahead of 2018 and 2019. All of which were among the ten best years of construction growth in the over 30 years that the city has been tracking it.

In addition to these figures, we are in discussions with several other companies and developers on new projects to be developed in the near future.

This type of growth is why it is so very important to complete our new 2040 Master Plan, so that we do SMART planning for the future growth and development of O’Fallon.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open!
