2021/11/01 - Mayor's Column: Thank you Veterans

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

On Nov. 11th, O’Fallon will return to honoring our Veterans on Veterans Day as we have for many years.  During the past two years, some of the programs have been limited or not held due to COVID restrictions and/or the weather.

We are known as the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave, that is due to the millions of men and women who have served in our military over the years and the more than 1.1 million that have given their lives to protect our freedoms during wartime and the many more that have lost their lives not in wartime.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all the men and women in O’Fallon that have served and that are still serving in our Military. I especially want to say thank you to my wife’s grandfather and father who are both retired Air Force, her brother, who is retired Navy, and my father, who was in the Army during WW II.

I’m so proud to tell people that over 15% of our families have served or are currently serving in our Military when less than 8% of our country have ever served.

O’Fallon’s Veteran’s Day celebrations will begin with a Ceremony at the First Baptist Church at 11 AM on the 11th. This is arranged by our Veterans Committee.  Then at 2 PM, the VFW will hold our Veterans Day Parade.  It will kick off at the Community Park and end up at the VFW on West 1st Street.

I hope that you can all join me on Veterans Day, and throughout the year, honoring our veterans. THANK YOU, TO ALL OF OUR VETERANS!

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
