2021/11/15 - Mayor's Column: Happy Thanksgiving!

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

Unlike last year, this Thanksgiving we have less restrictions for people to get together to celebrate the holidays. I say that because on Saturday, November 27th at 6 PM we will have the Illuminated Holiday Parade welcoming Santa to O’Fallon. Thousands of people will come down to see Santa arrive, the lighting of the Downtown area for the holidays, and so many other activities throughout the downtown area.

But before the Saturday event begins, on Thanksgiving Day the Community Thanksgiving Meal will be served again this year at the Faith Lutheran Church on Highway 50. With safety in mind, the meals will be served curbside for all that attend. My wife and I plan on helping again this year.

I also want to point out that City Hall is closed on the 25th & 26th on November for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

But on a more personal side, I have so many things to be thankful for again this year.

  • My wonderful wife, Nancy, of 52 years and our Family.
  • The health of our Family.
  • The wonderful community and country that we live in.
  • The excellent City staff and City Council that I get to work with.
  • Being elected by the mayors from across the State to a 4-year term as one of nine Trustees overseeing the new Statewide Seven Billion Dollar Firefighters Pension Fund.
  • The Public Safety and Medical Personnel that have served us so well during the COVID Virus.
  • Being elected for a second year to the Illinois Municipal League Board of Directors representing over 1,200 communities across Illinois.
  • The continued Growth and Development of our city.
  • Last but definitely not least, I’m so GREATFUL to EVERYONE for allowing me to serve another term as Mayor of this great city and the ability to serve all of you.

I hope that EVERYONE has a Great Thanksgiving.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
