2021/12/20 - Mayor's Column: Happy Holidays!

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

With this being the week of Christmas, I would like to wish everyone and their families a very Merry Christmas.  I hope that everyone will be able to be with family and friends to enjoy the holiday.

I know that our family will enjoy Christmas services and get together on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  We will enjoy the happiness of watching our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren opening their gifts from Santa and seeing the joy and excitement on their faces.  And above all, enjoying the holiday together.

Here are my requests of Santa:

  • For our families: the joy of being together and enjoying each other’s company and good health.
  • For all our businesses:  better supply lines of needed material and being able to fill your staffing needs.
  • For our City Staff and City Council: a deep appreciation for all that you do for our citizens and businesses.
  • For all of those in the field of Health Care: relief from the pressures you have been under.
  • For the Grinch of COVID: I hope that your days are numbered, and our families are spared your visit.

As I look back over the past year, I’m so grateful for all the sacrifices that were made by our Public Safety Staff, Health Care Workers and so many others that stepped up to give support and aide to others in need. I hope that this Holiday Season is a time for everyone to rest and recover, and to reflect on all the positives that have been achieved during this past year. I hope that this Christmas has a little more sparkle and less stress than last year.

I know that our family will take time to give thanks for all that we are blessed with, attend Christmas services, gather, and enjoy the laughter and company of each other.   That includes watching the eyes of our grandchildren as they open their Christmas gifts, which includes our Grandson Jackson who just turned one, last week.

The giving and helpful ways that our citizens display throughout the year has helped to make O’Fallon the fastest growing community in Southern Illinois. To me personally that is a gift that I appreciate year long.

It just means that Santa has a few more stops in the 62269 Zip Code.

I hope that your Holiday Season is filled with love, laughter, and goodwill.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
