2022/01/10 - Mayor's Column: New Construction Going Strong

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

We are starting off the new year with some good news on growth and development. I wanted to share some numbers with you and to let you know that we are starting the new year with seven projects that are getting close.

First, let’s look at some final numbers for building permits and construction for 2021:

  • Overall building permits were up 10% over any other year in the 30+ years that the city has kept records.
  • New commercial building was the highest in the last 10 years.
  • New residential home construction was once again over 100 new single-family homes.

Now for the early new developments for 2022:

Within the next two to four months, two new businesses will be opening their doors for the first time in O’Fallon and the first time anywhere in the State of Illinois.

These two facilities are the Hi-Point Restaurant on Route 50 and the Revela Senior Living Center on Seven Hills Road.

We also have two existing buildings that are being renovated for completely new usages. These two facilities are the old Labor Hall on First Street and the building on Central Park that formerly housed Gold’s Gym. The old labor hall is being renovated into a new downtown restaurant. The old Gold’s Gym is being changed into Dogwood Social (also 1st one to be developed in Illinois), a family entertainment center.

The first building on the old lumber yard property on Route 50 is looking to break ground within days. It will be the home of Edley’s BBQ Restaurant.

Plans for a new Scooters Coffee are under review by the City Council. It will be located between the I hop Restaurant and Moto Mart.

The seventh project is early in the process. It is a major new multi-facility, 28-acre development along Central Park drive.  It will be going to the Planning Commission for review within the next few weeks.

These are in addition to the continued buildout the Farmers & Merchants National Bank near the RecPlex and the new apartment complex across from the RecPlex on the Scott/Troy Road.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
