2022/04/18 - Mayor's Column: Community Assistance

"AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

On April 18, 2022, the O’Fallon City Council voted to approve the new Fiscal Year Budget. That budget includes a new program where the City of O’Fallon will work with several O’Fallon churches and organizations like The Society of St Vincent de Paul to assist some of our local families that need help with local utilities.

We have worked out arrangements with qualified local organizations to help families that need assistance.  The City will match pledges by paying 50% of the costs involved in utility bills, and the other entity will pay the remainder. This aid from the City may also allow the other organizations to possibly aide additional families or assist with other expenses with the funds they saved by partnering with the City. All requests for assistance will flow through these organizations.

We have budgeted $25,000 to assist with water or sewer bills for families that have fallen on hard times. We will also set aside $25,000 to assist O’Fallon families with utility bills from Ameren Illinois. The City’s assistance will be limited to families that live in O’Fallon.

It is the City’s intention to try to help during a time of increased costs and/or lower income. We will continue to be very fiscally responsible to all of our citizens while being willing to assist those that may need some qualified assistance at this time.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
