2022/05/09 - Mayor's Column: Five Important Updates

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

I would like to touch upon five items briefly in this article:

  • I am so pleased by the positive responses that we have received on new All-Abilities Playground planned for Community Park.  Many of our citizens, businesses, and organizations have already expressed their willingness to help with the construction and/ or make donations toward it.  More announcements on this will occur over next few weeks.
  • A tip of the hat to Police Lt. Patrick Feldhake for being the recipient of the Carl Dobbs Memorial Scholarship.  This is an award that is given out annually at the Illinois Association Chiefs of Police Banquet.  This is awarded to a command level officer and pays for their attendance to the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command.
  • Thank you to the five candidates that submitted resumes and went through interviews for the City Council position for Ward 3 that was created by the tragic death of Council Member Kevin Hagarty. We have completed the interviews and I will recommend a candidate this week. The Council will then vote on the recommendation at our City Council meeting on May 16th.
  • During the coming months, there will be two occurrences where traffic will either be seriously slowed or diverted while construction occurs. First, there will be a new and larger culvert put under Route 50 by Cambridge Boulevard. Later in the year, the first phase of resurfacing of Route 50 takes place near the Marie Schaffer School east to Route 158. You may want to start thinking about alternate ways to travel. During a complete closure, we will have alternate routes to keep traffic moving.
  • I would also like to give a big congratulations to all our 2022 Graduates and wish you nothing but the best as you proceed further with your education or your career.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
